Oo (surname)

Oo is a Burmese name (Burmese: ဦး) which means eldest or first. Although Burmese traditionally do not have surnames, the last portion of a name (typically made up of 2 to 3 sections) is used to associate with a surname in modern times.

Honorific Uses[edit]

Oo is sometimes written as U noting an honorific to reference Mr. or Uncle. One example of honorific being used is former Secretary-General of the United Nations U Thant (ဦးသန့်). The spelling of Oo and U in Burmese text (ဦး) is the same.
