Operation Opera (musical comedy show)
Operation Opera[1] starring Adelmo Guidarelli[2] is an operatic musical comedy variety show written by Michael MacKenzie Wills[3][4] with orchestral arrangements by Michael D. Gaylord.[5]
Synopsis[edit]
Operation Opera presents opera as an approachable and current art form for the people[6], as it was when it originated in Italy during the 16th century[7]. The show is composed of popular opera arias and their pop culture counter parts, as well as comedic narrative.[8][9][10]
Performers[edit]
Opera singer Adelmo Guidarelli[11][12] performs this work and is accompanied by Ruby Laurance[13] and pianist Seth Weinstein.[14]
Adelmo Guidarelli[15] is a baritone opera singer who grew up in West Harrison, New York.[16] In 2018, he appeared in two national TV commercials for SONY’s PS4 Pro “Opera Campaign.”[17][18] He won the 2011 MAC Award for “Best Comedy Performer” for his performance in the opera comedy show Operation Opera[19], he is a featured soloist on a German Children’s CD called “Der Kleine Tanzbar Schubidu,” he holds an International Association of Independent Recording Artists (IAIRA) certified International #1 hit for his dual language version of “Funiculi, Funicula,” and he won The Akademia Music Award for Best Gospel Song for his rendition of “Sweet Little Jesus Boy.”[20] He is a voting member of The Recording Academy/NARAS.[21]
Seth Weinstein[22] is a Harvard educated pianist and composer.[23][24] His most noted works include “The Chagall Suite,” an eight-movement piano suite inspired by themes of Marc Chagall’s artworks which was commissioned by Chagall scholar and lecturer Vivian R. Jacobson––who also commissioned Weinstein’s “Conversations with Chagall,” a melding of Russian classical themes, klezmer, rock, blues, jazz, and gospel; inspired by the music of Elvis Presley and the art of Marc Chagall.[25]
