Orange Media Network

Orange Media Network is the student media department at Oregon State University. It is responsible for The Daily Barometer newspaper, KBVR-TV, KBVR-FM 88.7, Beaver's Digest, Prism, and DAMchic. Fee-paying OSU students can participate in Orange Media Network in a number of volunteer and paid roles, including student journalists, designers, editors, photographers, videographers, DJs, sales associates, marketers, and other positions. As of 2018, more than 450 students participate annually with OMN.[1] Orange Media Network and its publications and mediums are housed in the Student Experience Center on the OSU campus.[2]

The Baro[edit]

The Daily Barometer, also called The Baro, is the student newspaper at Oregon State University. The print edition publishes on Mondays, with special editions throughout the year. The Barometer was founded in 1896, and transitioned to a weekly print edition in 2016. The news team currently provides daily coverage of news, sports and lifestyle, as well as opinion pieces and video.[3]

Prism[edit]

Prism is the literary and arts journal at OSU, and publishes three times each academic year. Students participate in staff positions in Prism by acting as editors and designers. Submissions are accepted from students across the university, and the print magazine features poems, short stories, drawings, paintings and photographs by students.[4] The staff of Prism also host an art showcase each year, showing the submissions of students. Prism also features its work online through its Backmatter Blog[5] and Podcast. The Backmatter Podcast also is hosted as a live radio show on KBVR-FM each Sunday.[6]

KBVR-TV[edit]

KBVR-TV is the student television station at Oregon State University.[7] The program broadcasts live in Corvallis on Comcast Cable, and regularly posts shows and video clips on YouTube.[8] Students participate in a variety of roles, including live show crew, hosting, directing, and producing. KBVR-TV students create multiple live shows each week, with all content being decided by KBVR students. Shows have included live music performance shows, game shows, talk shows, comedy, video gaming shows and craft shows.[9]

KBVR-FM[edit]

KBVR-FM is the student radio station at Oregon State University.[10] The station is non-commercial and licensed by the FCC to broadcast on 88.7 FM locally in the Corvallis area. More than 140 students participate, with many becoming live DJs. DJs can host their own weekly shows in a variety of formats, including music, news, sports, talk, and comedy. KBVR-FM also creates series of podcasts available online[11] and for download on iTunes.[12]

Beaver's Digest[edit]

Beaver's Digest is a quarterly student lifestyle magazine at Oregon State University. The magazine previously existed as the Beaver Yearbook, before transitioning into a quarterly magazine in 2014.[13] Issues are distributed across campus and articles are available online.[14]

DAMchic[edit]

DAMchic is a quarterly fashion magazine at Oregon State University.[15] DAMchic previously existed as an independent club at OSU before becoming part of Orange Media Network in 2016.[16] The magazine covers topics related to fashion, clothing, and lifestyle, both in a quarterly print edition and online.[17] DAMchic also assists with planning annual fashion shows with other partners on campus.[18]
