Orel Play[1] is a South African online media company based in Johannesburg. Its application and website were first launched in Zimbabwe by a franchise holder. Orel play is available world wide, with location and cloud based servers.

It provides users with a unique motivational and inspirationally based array of video, audio and literature content streamed, bought and or leased through Television, Video on Demand, Podcasts, Music, Radio and books[2]. Orel Play offers users an all-in-one service with a platform to purchase goods through the Orel store and operational productivity and business tools connecting businesses and clients through a mainframe that creates a secure and reliable service delivery system between clients and service providers.

Background

Orel Play was launched on July 1, 2018. The business was co-founded by Orel TV South Africa, and Donald Mhandu.

The founders initially limited the application and website to United Family International Church, in Zimbabwe. A church with a membership of one hundred thousand. The Orel Play subscriber numbers grew rapidly within the first week, and it was amongst the top 15 free trending applications in the Google Play store in Southern Africa.

Orel play has agents in African countries who collect content and send it to its Head Quarters in South Africa, were the content is streamed from there. South Africa thereby being the hub for content collection and distribution online, globally.

Within its first month of operation Orel Play had included payment gateways and accessibility options from Southern Africa based methods to, Central to Northern African based payment methods, allowing countries in these regions to enjoy the Orel Play experience. This incredibly bolstered their subscriber basis throughout Central and Northern Africa.

Services

Orel Play can be accessed from a large range of devices with internet connectivity, such as smartphones, laptops, tablet computers and desktop computers. After registering, users can access multiple forms of Christian media content, ranging from Audios, Podcasts, Videos on Demand, live radio and video streaming.

Users are able to top up their personalized Orel Play account from multiple international payment gateways such as mobile money wallets, VISA, Mastercard and many others.

Users can send queries via a chat platform, buy their favourite music, sermons, Videos on demand and christian books. They receive daily push notifications of new updates and uploads to the application.

Orel Play was designed using software that enables users to access their content off or online; creating a platform that allows the users to be continually engaged on the application in the presence or absence of an active internet connection. This has made it a favourite in countries were the daily data tariffs are significantly high.

Orel Play came with a host of new features and designs in the christian mobile application space that saw the company seeing the necessity to develop a specialised 24/7 Support Centre that allows users to freely chat with the support staff, to gain a better understanding of the application’s functionality. This has been accredited to Orel Play as being one of the corner stones of its continual success, this has sealed the stamp of reliability and confidence from its users.

The application uses an encryption code that does not allow users to share their digitally bought content via other analogue or digital internet based means, thus curbing piracy and maintaining the integrity and authenticity of the content offered on the application.

Orel Play features an account manager that gives a comprehensive breakdown of the Top up and Transactional History of the user, including reference numbers. This accounts for every in app transaction undertaken by the user.
