Ortigas South Station is the ninth planned station in the first phase of the Metro Manila subway project. It is located within the confines of the Capitol Commons complex in Kapitolyo district, Pasig City owned by Ortigas & Company. The entrances are located in Unimart Supermarket and Estancia Mall within the said complex.

It is also notable that Kapitolyo District is a trendy food and lifestyle hub especially popular among younger people and families. The area is in a prime location at the center of four major business districts namely, Ortigas, Mandaluyong, Makati, and Bonifacio Global City. Offices within the area include Rockwell Business Center, TV5 Media Center, UNILAB and San Miguel Corporation.

It is within close proximity to the main offices of prominent local and international companies, malls, and renowned educational institutions. Retail areas nearby include Capitol Commons, S&R Shaw, Tiendesitas in Ortigas East, Shangri-La Plaza, and SM Megamall.

It is near schools such as University of Asia and Pacific, St. Paul's College Pasig, Domuschola International School, Lourdes School of Mandaluyong and Saint Pedro Poveda College.

Hotels within the 1km radius include EDSA Shangri-La Hotel and Richmonde Hotel.

The station will serve commuters from nearby residential areas in Capitol Commons, private residences in Kapitolyo district, Valle Verde Village, condominiums such as The Vantage of Rockwell Primaries and Portico of Alveo Land. Shaw Boulevard MRT Station is also nearby.
