Pakistan Women Writers Forum

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Pakistan Women Writers’ Forum (PWWF) is a registered NGO founded and completely run for and by women. It's goal is to support and encourage women writers, artists, social workers and other intellectuals throughout Pakistan.

History[edit]

PWWF was established on International Women's Day, 1994, originally under the name Sarhad Women Writers' Forum. As the focus expanded beyond the province of Sarhad (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), the name was changed to reflect the new purpose of serving the women of all of Pakistan.

In 2008 PWWF also established a platform for young women known as the Young Women Writers' Forum. In a country where 49% of the population is female[1] but they only account for 42% of primary school enrollment[2] (with a widening gap in later education), PWWF aims to give girls the encouragement and tools necessary for succeeding in their education.

Activities[edit]

PWWF strives to create an awareness in women about their rights of expression and speech, and to enrich their knowledge and experience by inviting renowned writers and reformers to meetings. The forum also aids members in getting their literary work published in regional, national and international literary magazines and newspapers. It translates and promotes literature in minority, regional and international languages, often through joint programmes with other countries[3], and provides other international exposure to its members by arranging mentors for amateur writers. It has chapters in Islamabad[4][5], Peshawar[6], Lahore, Karachi, Hyderabad, Bahawalpur and Quetta which are serving the talented female youth of Pakistan.

PWWF has run a number of workshops[7] and contests giving women the chance to showcase their compositions and receive feedback from experts in their fields.
