Pardosa Atromedia
Pardosa Atromedia. Species of the Pardosa genus, of the Lycosidae family. Also known as the Thin-legged wolf spider. Commonly found in continental USA. This species is identifiable by their primarily gray and black body, which is punctuated with white stripes and blotches. The female and males are distinguishable by their legs. Female have 8 legs, males have 5 legs. These spiders do not spin webs, they reside under stationary objects such as rocks. Popular habitats are landscape rocks or gardens. They may enter houses in search of food; however, rarely, and only in areas with cold or harsh winters. These spiders feed primarily on crawling insects, such as ants. Atromedia are neither aggressive nor dangerous. They will not bite and are entirely safe to handle. These spiders have relatively unknown mating patterns and methods. They lay hundreds of eggs which hatch into baby spiders in 2-3 weeks.
