Paskakaupunni

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Paskakaupunni ry ("Shitty city" in Finnish) is a cultural association from Oulu founded in 2006 [1] The purpose of the association is to practice and improve local-level activity in co-operation with other Ouluan cultural associations, learning institutions and cultural operators.

Activity[edit]

The association organizes different cultural and media events, such as concerts, art and photography exhibitions, theater events, workshops and lectures and study groups in Oulu.

The origin of the name[edit]

Paska kaupunni graffiti at Uusikatu 22

The name Paskakaupunni was chosen because of the "Paska kaupunni" graffiti in Uusikatu 22 in Oulu. The graffiti appeared on the wall at some point in the 80's and it was inspired by the song Paska Kaupunki by Kauko Röyhkä. After this, the graffiti has been removed numerous times, but it has always reappeared on the same spot. The condominium owning the wall has even thought of framing the graffiti or protecting it in other ways.[2] It has also become an unofficial nickname for Oulu.[citation needed]
