Patient sidekick
A patient sidekick is someone who takes care of a patient, similar to a caregiver or a patient advocate, but with the added distinction that this person is seen as a colleague and full partner, fighting along side the patient but never taking over as the lead. The sidekick is there each step of the way as needed, always respecting the needs of the patient, and stepping aside when the patient wants autonomy. The term was coined by Kathy Pham in 2014 as she was battling cancer with her mom.[1]
