Pavol Bohdan Zápotočný is a young Slovak pianist and composer.

Education[edit]

In 2009 he started studying at Elementary Art School in Martin. Now, he´s attending the State Conservatory in Žilina. (from 2019)

Music career[edit]

One of his most remarkable results is the double II. place at the international competition in Czech Broumov, where Pavol Bohdan represented the city of Martin / Slovak Republic as the most successful participant from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, last in April 2018. Also important is III. place at the prestigious international competition Petr Toperczer in Košice in 2017, where he became the most successful participant from Slovakia. He also won the Mayor of Košice Award and the award for the best interpretation of a composition by the Slovak composer Ivan Parík. In 2015, Pavol Bohdan was awarded in Luxembourg III. place for his composition in the union category.

In May 2018 he became the winner of III. categories of the 1st year of the international competition Piano TalentsFor Europe in Dolný Kubín.

Pavol Bohdan is the most successful performer of the international interpretation competition „Rajecká hudobná jar“ in its 10-year history, which is a holiday of Slovak music, an event where only compositions by Slovak composers are heard. He regularly presents his piano compositions in this competition. He has participated in the competition for the last eight years with remarkable results.

Five times he won 1st place - the prize for the best interpretation of a composition by a Slovak composer, three times 2nd place - the prize of a music center. Every year, contemporary Slovak music composers compose compositions for the winners of the Rajec Music Spring. One year after the competition, the winner will show them in Bratislava and Vienna.

In July 2018 he completed master classes "Schola Arvensis" in Dolný Kubín under the guidance of the professor of the University of Tel Aviv - Marek Shaviner.

He brought from Košice as the most successful Slovak in 2019 - II. place from the international PeterToperczer competition.

In December 2019 he won the international online competition PIANOART in Ukraine - II. the place.
