'Pencil Duck' is the generic name for an inflatable catamaran boat. The 'Pencil Duck' is an evolution of the rubber dinghy also known as a 'Rubber Duck'. The etymology is of the name derives from the 'Pencil' like hulls combined with the 'Rubber Duck' style of inflatable boat. Much like the the Hoover versus Vacuum cleaner colloquialism in the UK, the 'Pencil Duck' is often called by the leading manufacturers name, in this case a Zapcat.

In the UK these boats are also know generically as Thundercats, which is the name of the World Wide Racing Circuit for all manufacturers boats. The 2018 World Championships will be held in la Grand Motte, France, in the Autumn.
