Piotr Kobus is a Polish film producer.

Biography[edit]

Kobus graduated with a BBA degree in management and international marketing from Pace University in New York, and the EAVE international course for film producers in Luxembourg.

He has selected films for film festivals in Poland including New Horizons IFF in Wrocław, Young and Cinema IFF in Koszalin, Spanish Cinema Week and World Cinema Ale Kino Festival.

From 1999 to 2001 he was the general director of Gutek Film.

In 2006 Kobus co-edited with Fernando Martin Peña the first book about Argentine cinema in Polish. It accompanied a major retrospective of New Argentine Cinema at the New Horizons International Film Festival – the biggest film event in Poland.

Between 2002 and 2008 he taught History of Latin American Cinema at Warsaw University.

In 2010 Kobus founded with Agnieszka Drewno Mañana the production arm of a distribution and promotion company AP Mañana. Mañana is a trilingual company as all its employees speak fluently at least Polish, English and Spanish.

Lasting (Poland-Spain), directed by Jacek Borcuch, was presented at CineMart 2011 and had its world premiere in World Cinema Dramatic Competition at 2013 Sundance Film Festival, where it won a cinematography award.

United States of Love (Poland-Sweden), by Tomasz Wasilewski, was presented at Rotterdam-Berlinale Express 2014. It was supported by the Creative Europe programme and developed at EAVE Producers Workshop 2014. It won the Silver Bear award for best screenplay at Berlinale in 2016.

Satan Said Dance (Poland-Netherlands), by Kasia Rosłaniec, was written on a Nipkow scholarship in Berlin and supported by MEDIA programme. It had its world premiere in competition of FIFIB 2016 and its US premiere at SXSW 2017.

Kobus is a member of the European Film Academy,[1] and the Polish Filmmakers Association.[2]
