PlagiarismCheck.org is a cloud-based platform for detecting different cases of plagiarism in academic writing. It was launched in 2011.[1][2]

PlagiarismCheck.org runs through all open resources and repositories.[3] It identifies word rearrangements, paraphrasing, changes from active to passive voice and vice versa, as well as replacements of words with synonyms. The algorithm also spots letters that are similar in Latin and Cyrillic alphabets and finds if they were substituted.[4] The software does not take into account quotes and references that are properly cited according to APA, MLA, Chicago, or other popular formatting styles. After the analysis is completed, a detailed report with links to all matched sources is generated.[5]

PlagiarismCheck.org complies with the GDPR and personal copyrights.

History[edit]

2016[edit]

The algorithm that defines a word-for-word match, word rearrangements, and substitutions was introduced.[6][7] The tool was equipped with complex language analysis,[8] making it possible to detect similarity even after text spinners significantly alter the writing.[9][10]

2018[edit]

The firm joined the ENAI (European Network for Academic Integrity) to spread ideas of academic integrity and honesty.[11]

Later on in 2018, functionality for K-12 and higher education was implemented.[12] It allowed educational institutions to access and manage their accounts, add students, teachers, organize submissions, and review the statistics of each participant.

Thefirm started working with the Google Classroom learning management system. The integration was realized through OAuth 2.[13][14][15] Along with Google Classroom integration, a plugin for Moodle was introduced.[16] The software also provided an open-source API for integration with any internal system academia might have.

2019[edit]

PlagiarismCheck.org launched an add-on for Google Docs[17] and announced integration with Canvas—an LMS system by Instructure, Inc.[18]

In June, ENAI (European Network for Academic Integrity) conducted research and found the Urkund system, PlagiarismCheck, and Turnitin to be the best plagiarism detection systems.[19]
