Poul-Erik Heilbuth

Poul-Erik Heilbuth is an award-winning Danish documentary director. He has made multiple documentaries for DR (Danish Broadcasting corporation)[1]

In 2018 Poul-Erik Heilbuth was award the highest award for TV in Denmark, “Årets Otto” by the Danish producers’ union, for his “high level of ambition”, “insistence on thorough research” and his “unweaving dedication for searching the truth”[2]

A number of Poul-Erik Heilbuth’s documentaries have been shown around the world, among these the most famous is his 2015 film about, and staring, the world-famous whistleblower Edward Snowden.[3]The film “Terminal F/Chasing Edward Snowden” won best documentary of the year in 2015 at Germany’s equivale to the Emmys, handed out by Deutsche Akademie für Fernsehen.[4]

In 2011 Poul-Erik Heilbuth had similar luck with another international key figure.[5] In the documentary “The man who lied the world into war” Heilbuth covers the story of the informant Curveball, whose history was a key part in why the Iraq War in 2003 happened. The movie won a AIB-award for “best investigating documentary”. [6]

In addition, Poul-Erik Heilbuth has had 4 documentaries on the internation documentary film festival IDFA in Amsterdam: The Chemical Kids (2001), The other Europe (2006), Prisoners of the past (2008), The man who lied the world into war (2011).
