PIBFAL - Prague International Biweekly Football League[edit]

Prague International Biweekly Football League (PIBFAL) is an amateur football league in Prague, Czech Republic. There are two seasons per year Apertura and Clausura. Apertura is running from April to June and Clausura, from September to December. Currently, the league consists of 5 teams: Taverners F.C., IFC Prague, Partisan Old Boys, DHL ITS F.C. and Johnson & Johnson F.C. A team is playing each team in the league twice, home and away, totalling 10 matches in one season. There is no promotion nor relegation. The main objective of the league is to spread the beautiful game among amateur football players in Prague. The main values are friendship, fair-play and respect.[1] Most of the footballers playing the league are expats. As of May 18, there are 231 registered players from 38 countries.[2]

History[edit]

First ever PIBFAL season started in September, 2016. Participating teams were Taverners, IFC, Partisan and DHL. All the matches from first and second seasons were played on Anděl Arena, the same place where Czech Republic national football team is training, located on top of the Mrázková hill. The other pitch is Horní Měcholupy. Started with the third season, a new team joined the league, Johnson & Johnson F.C. and besides Anděl Arena and Horní Měcholupy, some matches were played on other venues: SK Motorlet's home ground, SK Motorlet 2, Pankrac Slavoj Vyšehrad, Sportovní Areál ČAFC Praha and Sportovní Areál Pražačka. Taverners are the absolute PIBFAL champions winning the title in each season so far.

There are 7 venues where PIBFAL matches are played starting with the 2016 seasons. Most of the matches are played on Anděl Arena and Horní Měcholupy.

Autumn-Winter 2016 Season[edit]

Autumn-Winter 2016 was the very first PIBFAL season. There were 4 teams participating: Taverners, IFC, Partisan and DHL. Each team played 6 matches during September - December 2016. Taverners won the inaugural season winning 5 matches out of 6. DHL ITS F.C. was the only team losing all the matches. A total number of 68 goals were scored, with Taverners having the best attack with 26 goals for and only 6 conceded. At the opposite pole, there is DHL ITS F.C. with only 9 scored goals and a record of 29 goals conceded.[3]

Spring-Summer 2017[edit]

The Second PIBFAL season started on March 27 with a thrilling result: Taverners 8-3 DHL ITS F.C[4]. The league consisted of the same teams as in the previous season. The final standings were pretty similar with the previous season with Taverners finishing first with 15 points, followed by IFC Prague (12 points) and Partisan (9 points). DHL ITS F.C. followed the same path as in the first season, winning no match but improved regarding the goal difference, -13 compared to -20 and having the 3rd best attack in the league. There were 74 goals scored, 6 more than in the previous season.[5]

Autumn-Winter 2017[edit]

The Autumn-Winter 2017 PIBFAL season started on September 4 with DHL IFC F.C. facing the newcomers Johnson & Johnson F.C. at Horní Měcholupy.[6] At the end of the season, Tavernens F.C. became champions for the third time in a row with 19 points (six wins, one draw and one loss), 7 ahead second place. A new record of total scored goals was established: 115. Best attack and best defence was Taverners' with 45 goals scored and 13 conceded. On the opposite side, with the worst attack there is DHL ITS F.C. with 13 goals scored. Worst defence was the one of Johnson & Johnson F.C. with 33 goals conceded. The match between IFC Prague and Johnson & Johnson has been postponed and a final decision will be taken by the end of the Spring-Summer 2018 Season.[7]

The best goal scorer of the Autumn-Winter 2017 season has been awarded to DHL ITS F.C. player, Juan Plaza García. The Spaniard scored 10 times in 5 appearances for DHL during the season. The second best goal scorer was Evgeny Dolgunow, the Moldavian player of Taverners with 8 goals in 7 matches. Alex Iony, the Taverners player was the third best goalscorer of the season with 7 goals in 4 matches.[8]

The fourth PIBFAL season started on March 5, 2018 with the match between DHL ITS F.C. vs. Johnson & Johnson. Antonino de Siena and Darko Bražinić both scored a hat-trick for the away team which won 7-4.[9]
