Princeton Hsu (Xu Songshi) was born in Rongxian County, Nanning, Guangxi Province. His father, Xu Yuqi, was a scholar in the Qing Dynasty and studied in Japan. At the age of 14, Princeton Hsu went to Shanghai and entered Hujiang University there [1]. He supported himself by writing books, publishing his first work, New Theories in Education, in 1919. The book was highly popular. Princeton Hsu wrote over 100 books in his lifetime on the topics of cultural anthropology and Christianity. He is considered one of the fathers of cultural anthropology.

Hsu married Guo Qifen in 1924 and studied at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. After returning to China, Hsu founded the church school, Chongzhen Women's Middle School in Shanghai, where he served as the principal. Princeton Hsu was appointed the pastor by the Shanghai Guangdong Brigade Baptist Church. During the Sino-Japanese War and World War II from 1937-1945, Hsu was elected by Hujiang University as the General Secretary of the Student Association in Shanghai. Later, he was hired as the Editorial Department Officer. Hsu established the first Christian literature society in China.

In 1956, Princeton Hsu moved to Hong Kong, where he taught at the Jiandao Theological Seminary, the Baptist Theological Seminary, and acted as Director of the Tsim Sha Tsui Association. Hsu immigrated to the United States, where he established the Shalun Chinese Baptist Church in San Francisco.

During his lifetime, Hsu wrote a number of works, including The Chinese Discovery of America (Book I & II), Thai Tribes in Guangdong, History of the Yuejiang River Valley, Lingnan Bronce Drum, and more [2]. Hsu's ancestral home is preserved in Rongxian County, with photos and calligraphy paintings.
