Pro Bono Partnership

Pro Bono Partnership, Inc. (the Partnership) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing business and transactional legal services to nonprofit organizations serving the disadvantaged or enhancing the quality of life in neighborhoods in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York (excluding New York City).[1].

History and Leadership[edit]

The Partnership was founded in 1997 by Richard Hobish and Robert E. Healing with support from the General Electric Company and began operating out of White Plains, NY[2]. In 2000, the Partnership expanded its program to New Jersey at the request of several New Jersey Fortune 1000 companies[3]. In 2008, the Nonprofit Pro Bono Initiative, a small program based at the University of Connecticut School of Law, merged with the Partnership, creating the Partnership's Connecticut Program[4]. Finally, in 2017, the Partnership opened a Long Island office to serve the area’s nonprofit organization community[5].

The Partnership is led by Executive Director Nancy Eberhardt, Esq.[6] and a Board of Directors.

Program[edit]

The Partnership fulfills its mission by partnering its nonprofit organization clients with legal counsel from corporations and law firms. By facilitating the connection between legal counsel and nonprofit organizations, the Partnership assists nonprofit organizations more effectively feed the hungry, house the homeless[7], promote the arts, protect the environment, and provide essential programs to children[8], the elderly, immigrants, the disabled, and the unemployed[9]

Learning Center[edit]

The Partnership's Learning Center offers articles, workshops, and webinars covering a range of legal topics that help nonprofit organizations navigate legal issues and challenges. Researched and written by the Partnership's staff and volunteers, the articles include practical tools such as model documents and checklists.

Legal Resource Helpline[edit]

The Partnership’s Legal Resource Helpline offers general information and referrals to callers.
