Professor Hillary Barchok (born in Bomet, Kenya) is a Kenyan politician and professor. He is the third and current Governor of Bomet County in Kenya. Barchok is a member of United Democratic Alliance Party (Kenya). He was sworn into office on 8th August 2019[1] after the death of the second governor Dr. Joyce Laboso who succumbed to cancer in July 2019.
Career[edit]
Before he was elected deputy governor in 2017, Prof. Barchok was serving as the dean in the faculty of education and human resource at Chuka University. He also served at the board of the Retirement Benefits Authority. In 2013 he officially went into politics and became a member of United Republican Party.
Prof. Barchok is popularly known as "the peace-maker". He has announced he is standing for re-election in the August 2022 Kenya General Elections under the United Democratic Alliance party.

Gubernatorial Tenure Performance[edit]
Since assumption of office as the Governor of Bomet, great strides have been made in the improvement of infrastructure. Through lobbying to international development partners, collaborations with the National Government and County Government initiatives, Bomet County now boasts of over 500 ECDE centers, bilateral trades between the Bomet County and the Republic of Iran, and tarmacking of various towns in the county.
Prof. Barchok is keen on empowering the lives of the youth through education. He has initiated full and partial scholarships for the youth in Bomet wishing to pursue courses at Certificate, Diploma, and Degree levels, and even those in secondary schools. Prof. Barchok administration has seen over 500 students benefit on full scholarships to various secondary schools in the country, and county loans through the Higher Education Loans Board for the students in higher levels of education.
He has also initiated a setup of a milk processing plant in Chepalungu sub-county, that processes milk sourced from within the county, and adds value before being taken to the market
