Jalal-Eddeen Abubakar Saleh (born March 1971) Jalal-Eddeen Abubakar Saleh is a public health physician and professor of epidemiology. He is the fifth child of Saleh Michika, the first civilian Governor of Adamawa state, Nigeria who died on the 10th March 2018 at the age of 77 years. [1][2] Jalal-Eddeen, married to Fadimatu Shuaib Hamid [3] the daughter of the former Director General during Saleh Michika’s regime, is blessed with five children, two boys and three girls. The astute epidemiologist currently serves as a national professional officer at the World Health Organisation [4] [11] [12] [8] after serving in the Adamawa state health sector for nearly 20 years.

Academic and working career Jalal-Eddeen Saleh obtained his medical degree from the University of Maiduguri Nigeria in 1994 at around the age of 23 years. He served at the Adamawa State Specialist Hospital between 1994 – 1995 as an intern before proceeding to the one-year national youth service (NYSC) at the MRS in Minna, Niger State. Upon his return from the national service in 1996, Jalal-Eddeen got posted to the Government House Yola Clinic to serve as physician to the Military Administrator Col. Ahmad Garba Hussain and then the Executive Governor Boni Haruna for at least four years. A record has shown that Jalal-Eddeen was the youngest physician to serve a sitting Governor in the state.

Jalal-Eddeen voluntarily resigned his position to further his education at the Imperial College London between 2003 – 2004 (Internal Medicine), London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine 2009 – 2011 (MSc Public Health), and the Walden University U.S.A. 2012 – 2015 (PhD Epidemiology) [5]. Because of academic excellence during his doctoral studies at the Walden University, Jalal-Eddeen got membership of the Golden Key International Honours Society. As a result of his outstanding record in the field of medicine and public health, the 46th edition of the Imperial College London Magazine has recognised him among the top African Innovators 9] .

Jalal-Eddeen has professional membership of various international bodies which include Fellow Faculty of Public Health (U.K.), Fellow American College of Physicians, Member American College of Epidemiology, Fellow Royal Society for Public Health, Fellow Royal Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Member International Society of Global Health, Member International Society for Disease Surveillance, Member International Society for Infectious Diseases, Member International Epidemiological Association, Member American Public Health Association, Member American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Individual Member Collaboration on Health and Environment U.K., Member Chatham House U.K., Member Nigerian Institute of Management, and Member Nigerian Institute for Management Consultants.

With interest in original research work in vaccine-preventable diseases, Jalal-Eddeen Saleh has two books to his credit - Concise Handbook of Epidemiology [10] and Maternal & Neonatal Tetanus Elimination: a look at Nigeria. [7] and published at least 45 scholarly papers both in local and International peer-reviewed Journals [6]

Jalal-Eddeen Saleh is currently on the watch list of future politicians in Adamawa State and Nigeria.
