Basavaraja Bhajantri, popularly known as the 'King of Shahanai', is one of the renowned Shahnais of Karnataka. Shahnai has been playing the perfectionist since childhood. These are some of the great musicians of India who have dedicated their lives to this art. He recognized ‘A’ Grade Artist by All India Radio (AIR), Dharwad.

Personal Life

Pt.Basavaraja Bhajantri was born on 01/05/1953 in the Hediggonda village of Badagi Taluk of Haveri district as the son of Pt. Thirakappa and Savitramma. This is a musical legacy. His father, P. Thirakappa, was a bassist.

His grandfather also played music for Carnatic. So, from an early age, I got into music. He has four older brothers (one died early) and two younger. In 1984, Ratna from Hanagal (Sammsagi )'s musical family entered into a married life. His brothers Gurunath and Shivananda are also tabla, shanai, harmonium players and their children play tabla and harmonium. Since 2007, Dharwad has been teaching music to local and foreign students at the Kalakeri Music College, Dharwad. He has an immense disciple.

He has received invitations from abroad from states like Karnataka, Kerala, Chennai, Goa, Gujarat and Delhi. The concerts of P Basavaraja Bhajantri are: P. Raghunath Nakhoda (Tabla), Pavavagal, P Kiran Nakhoda, P Vishwanath Nakhoda, P Shantalinga Kaloorakara, P Bhimashi Marola, Gurunatha Bhajanchandari Sajan. Jugal Bandhi arranges with P. Rafeeq Khan's (Violin, Sitar).
