Qub3d Engine Project[edit]

The Qub3d Engine Project is a free and Open Source project whose goals are to create a Minecraft-esque game engine with the intent of near full modding capabilities.

History[edit]

Qub³d was started by TobyPlowy (known also as Toby109tt, and founder) and The Scarecröwman (known also as Harrowed Creations, and founder).

Qub³d began as Minecore, when Toby Plowy (known also as Toby109tt, and founder) got the idea of making a sandbox game in September 15, 2011 after playing Minecraft Beta 1.8. On 5 December, 2017, Toby found The Scarecrowman. Scarecrowman had a concept for a subgame, for use with the Minetest Engine. His subgame was called The GrimHarvest. They both began assisting each other, before noticing the limitations that came with the Minetest Engine. They decided to make a fork of the engine, called Minecore (later renamed Qub³d). They launched the concept of Minecore on February 5, 2018. This was done on the Minetest Forums with this post.

When the project was announced, negativity and criticism was expressed by the Minetest core developers, but Toby and The Scarecrowman kept on moving. After much consideration, the idea of using the Minetest Engine was scrapped. The idea of the Qub³d Engine began here, an engine written from scratch, began here.
