From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Qutbuddin Izniki (d. 7 December 1418, Iznik), Ottoman[disambiguation needed] Islamic scholar and sufi. Muhammed ibn Muhammed al-Izniki was a scholar who lived at Iznik (Nicea) during the period of Sultan Bayazid and produced works in the fields of tasawwuf and ethics (akhlaq). He is known for his volumous work on Koranic exegesis called the Qutbaddin Tafseer.

According to a tract written by his son Qutbaddinzada Mehmed Izniki called Ihtijaju Adam Ma’a Musa Alayhimas Salam, Qutbaddin Izniki was born in Niğde and later migrated to Iznik. He was educated by several scholars amongst whom was the Ottoman Vizier and Arabic language scholar Niksari Hasan Pasha. It is narrated he completed his work, learned from Hasan Pasha, called Sharh-e Mafail in 1939. Along with other sciences, sources mention him especially having full command of sharia related sciences and significantly rising stations on the path of tasawwuf. Evliya Chelebi wrote of him being a shaykh in the Bayrami order with a tekke in Iznik where he would run the tariqa activities.

It also notes during Timur’s occupation of Anatolia (Asia Minor), Qutbaddin Izniki met him and gave him stern warnings against shedding innocent blood. Sultan Bayezid’s son Isa Chelebi was also the ambassador to Timur signifying Bayezid’s submission to him. Qutbaddin passed away in 1418 at Iznik and was buried in his dargah.[1] The Shaykh Qutbaddin Mosque was built next to his tomb in the 15th century.[2]
