Early Life and Childhood[edit]

Raosaheb was born on 10th June,1941 in Bilagi.[1], Bagalkot District. as observed by his parents he was much interested in Music ,Drama rather in accademics. In other words he was artistic person. He never missed any live concerts or plays which assembled the stages. His father Hucchappa More served in CID department, which would earn him three rupees of monthly salary. Hucchappa was also interested in Music and was Harmonium Player.[2]. Its the reason he was fascinated and helped him to proceed in the same field later. His father got an opportunity to work with Prime Minister of India Morarji Desai [3].

    Pt. More was eldest son of the couple Hucchappa and Dondubai, followed by three brothers and two sisters leading to a happy family. He used to forget himself when he listened  to the alaaps,Paltas sung by Radhabai[4]. By understanding the mettle of Pt. Raosaheb, his father bought musical instruments for practice. His mischievous nature marked the childhood of Pt. Raosaheb where on other hand his interests in music led him to great Percussionist[5]

Professor Kariyappa Hadapad[edit]

Prof. Kariyappa Hadapad was born on 30th April,1932 in Gadag district.His family hierarchy evolved in the percussionists[6] of skinned instruments. His father was tabla artist. By understanding his fascination his father took him to Gawai Ashram at Gadag Puttaraj Gawai, from where he learnt for 10 years. Later he travelled to Varanasi for further studies. he was so fortunate that he got a mentor Pt.Anokhelal Mishra,where he continued his riyaz[7]z for further four years. He got graduation[8] from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya,"Alankar" in Bengaluru as centre.

  He was well nurtured in Banaras [9] by his guru. In order to popularise the grandeur of this gharana he established  Nataraj Sangeet Vidyalaya(NSV) in Bagalkot district in the year 1960 and became the seer person of it.Through which he introduced this Gharana[10]. Its proud that Pt. Raosaheb was disciple of Pt. Hadapad.
  He accompanied many prowessed artists during his times like Sitarist[11] Gangadhar guruji, VocalistVocalist Mallikarjun mansoor, Basavaraj Rajguru[12] GajananRao Joshi,Prabha Atre[13] Laxmi shankar, Prabhudev Sarkar, Siddaram Jambaldinni, Panchakshara swami, Mattigatti Siddaramswami Korwar, B D Pathak, D r Parvatikar[14] and also clarinet player[15] Pt. Narasimhalu Vadavati in places like Chennai, Kolkata,Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad.

Some of disciples like Shankar Kadimatti, Ramesh Gudi, M.S Patil, Madivalayya Sali, Gadagayya Swamy Rajol, Basavaraj Baroti, Jangmath, Chingate and no less Pt. R H More, Shivanand Mangalagi, Venkatesh Vadavati, Udaykumar Hoogar, Sharanbasappa Hadapad(son), Ashwin Kumar, Shravan Kumar, Rajkumar Mudabi, Panchakshari Kanavi, Panchaksharkumar Bommalapur etc. Among these many got scholarships and state ranks[16]

     After his five years service of seer in NSV, he transferred his responsibilities to Pt. R H More in 1966. he then settled as Professor in tabla at "Vijaykala Mandir", in Gadag. And also accompanied with famous Vocalist" Vachana Sangeet Shilpi", Pt. Siddaram Jambaldinni in Gulbarga[17] in 1970. Later he retired in 1990.

Musical Life of Pt. More[edit]

When his father Hucchappa got transferred to Muddebihal they had had to come through a turning point in the life where they met Puttaraj Gawai, he blessed him.Later he fore told that, Pt. More would become best musician which would not only bring him bread and butter but also name and fame. Accordingly he continued to practice and as a fruit he is now best Percussionist. Ameengad Totappa was his first teacher to teach him harmonium, who was disciple of Harmonium artist Govindrao Tembe in Kolhapur. Later when they shifted to bagalkot he joined to classes taught by Rangachar Joshi. And also from Govindas katti. He was such a devoted student to his guru,that he used to sweep and clean the class where he would practice. Giving testament to the line"Guruvina Gulamanaguva tanaka Doreyadanna mukuti", by a great monk shreePurandara dasaru.

          By the time Pt. more got much interests in taal rather in Swaras, Govindas Katti was his first teacher to teach him tabla in Delhi gharana. He continued for few days but one fine day he was Adviced by Pt. Mallikarjun Mansoor to learn Banaras gharana rather in Delhi Gharana as there were many artists. And henceforth came across Pt. Kariyappa  Hadapad(Mallapur),  teached him banaras bols, from whom he spent more than ten years of Riyaz. In due course he dropped his accademics in class six and decided to go along the bols[18] of tabla.

Journey with D R Parvatikar[edit]

After learning from Pt. Hadapad,he got an opportunity with D R Parvatikar [19] with who he spent early mid life in varanasi. He gradually got opportunities to accompany artists. It was his performance with famous Sitarist Poojya Gangadhar Mahaswamy, with whose blessings he entered to the mid life. He was accompanied and experienced with swami dattatreya ram rao parvatikar who is founder of Rudra veena and Dattatreya veena. In 1969, he shard a stage with him, for the first time in government girls highschool, bagalkot. He got to make history of spending 22 years with Parvatikar Maharaj[20] and explored himself a lot.

Concerts and Accompanies[edit]

  • In 70"s and 80"s he accompanied artist Pt. Arjunsa Nakod,Siddaram Jambaldinni, Basavaraj Rajguru, Sheshadri Gawai and sitarist Murnal Gangadhar swami Mahapurush.
  • Once in 1975, he got chance to accompany Vidushi Ranjani Chakravarty, disciple[21] of Pt. Chinmoy Lahari, guru of Padmashree Parveen Sultana Of Patiala gharana. Before the concert she was dissatisfied by him. But during the concert when Pt. More showed his repartee, she exclaimed "Vah kya bat hai, Aap bahut bade Kalakar hai'.
  • He also got good feedback after the concerts with Chandrashekar Puranikmath, Pt. Somnath Maradoor, Vireshwar Madari, and ViolinistViolin Ishwar Moodgeri,Hanumantappa Kamnahalli, B.S Math, Tukaramsa Kabade, Shankarsa Kabade, Vannur Gawai and Smt. Sugunabai Chandavarkar.
  • It was occasion of concert of welknown Jaltarang Mangeshnath Govekar, who intended to have Pt.More.

  • He also accompanied Clarinet player Pt.Narasimhalu Vadavati and Pt. Kadri Gopalnath in saxophone, to the jugalbandhi, Sainath on Mridang.
  • A big privilage to him ,that he accompanied India's famous vocalists M S Subbalakshmi and Balamurali Krishna.
  • He also exhibited with D.R Parvatikar in B D Jatti's house who was 5thVice President of India and got appreciations from Sarojini Mahishi, who was Ex-Minister.
  • He won hearts of many people in chalukya utsav i.e.,at Chalukya dynasty in 2008-2009 at the age of 69 years.
  • It was a time of last concert of Parvatikar Maharaj in the year 1990, in Vijayapura at Navarasapura Utsav. Parvatikar announced that it was going to be last concert of him. So It was huge gathering. He started with Raag Yaman Kalyan. The concert gained remarkable piece due to mellifluous compositions of Parvatikar and well versed repartee of Pt. More.

Seer of NSV[edit]

In order to introduce Banaras Gharana to Karnataka, Prof. Kariyappa Hadapad established Nataraj Sangeet Vidyalay(NSV).He initially started classes in small room in Maratha Samaj Building,near Ambabhavani temple,killa Bagalkot. But after five years he went to Gadag back, by giving all the responsibilities to Pt. More and made him seer Person.

In the year 1979 with the co-operation of Dattubuva Inamdar,Akhila Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Exam centre was established in Bagalkot. Since 1979,exams are being conducted here and many students are passing out every year. As per the wish of Prof. Hadapad, Pt. More and Chenveer Bannur were the head of NSV. As Bannur sir passed away, Pt. More is looking after all the acivities.

Later along with the music classes, in the intension to start classical dance class, in 2006 NSV got renewed into Nataraj Sangeet Nrutya Niketan(NSNN), name suggested by Pt. more. And Vidushi Smt Shubhada Deshpande is present Principal of NSNN.

Many students of Pt. More who have settled in different states and country, never go back without the blessings of Pt. More.Every art is obtained by a person, only when he becomes, best,determined,sincere student of his teacher. If not, the attitude is being taught by Pt. More before he begins his actual lesson of music. With such polite attitude he teaches his students, as a fruit, his students are becoming national and International artists. One of his senior most disciple, Pt.Keshav Joshi, who is contributing the Banaras Gharana and uphold guruz name, supporting the saying " Raja Swadesh Poojyate, Vidwan Sarwatra Poojyate".

In this way, day by day many renewed artists are settling their lives, where music brings them bread and butter, which credits to NSNN. NSNN celebrates its annual days by inviting many renewed artists and also felicitates the best Tabla as "Anokhe Tabla Vadak Puraskar" which includes momento and cashprize. It also organises "Guru Vandana",small programme anually.
