Rally Almyros

Introduction[edit]

Rally Almyros (Greek : Rally Αλμυρός) is a rally competition held in almyros in Central Greece.The rally is driven on asphalt roads in a variety of asphalt conditions from tight grip to slippery asphalt.

It contains two special stages the special stage Agioi Theodoroi - Pteleos - Sourpi 12,65 km long and the special stage Nies 6,08 km long.

Since the first edition of the rally at 2016 rally Almyros has proven as one of the most friendly rallies for a driver or a co-driver to compete for first time having 5 drivers and 10 co-drivers making their debuts or their comebacks in Greek motorsport while the variety of the special stages conditions makes it ideal for a participant to test his new car having seen 3 Greek premiers of rally cars.

In 2016 sports club Ο.Μ.Α.ΤΗ. was assigned by Greece's national motorsport federation O.M.A.E. to host the 3rd round of the Central Greece Ashalt Cup wich was part of the redesigned Greece Ashalt Cup.Although in the past years there was a rally held in Almyros the assignment in a new sports club meαnt that the rally should be redesigned containing new special stages

2016 (09-10 July)[edit]

At 2016 O.M.A.E. redesigned the Greek ashpalt cup dividing it into four regional cups which all connected with a final race.Rally Almyros joined in the central Greece asphalt cup as the 3rd round of the cup

The first edition of the rally alongside with the first rally of the sports club was a two-day event with the special stage of Agioi Theodoroi - Pteleos - Sourpi was held one time at Saturday 09 July and two times at Sunday 10 July and the special Nies was held two time at Sunday 10 July giving the participants a total of 50,11 km to race.The ceremonial start of the rally was held at the seaside village of Amaliapoli following the first special stage.The official finish of the rally and the cup awards were held at the city of almyros .The rally headquarters was based at the city of almyros while the service park was based at Sourpi.

26 crews started the rally competing in six categories in an edition which gave everybody a really good fight for the first place up until the last special stage in most categories including the overall classification.A pattern started to create with 1 driver to participate in his first rally,1 co-driver to make her motosport debut and another one to be making his comeback and one rally car to participate in his first asphalt event.

M.Thergiakis (a.k.a.NIKON ) - G.Andrianopoulos in an Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX was the overall winners while the F2 winners J.Plagos - A.Rentis in a Honda Civic Type-R Ep3 came second and A.Dofis - M.Tsaousoglou in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII finished third.

J.Plagos - A.Rentis in a Honda Civic Type-R Ep3 won the F2 in front of A.Margaronis - M.Afaloniatis in a Citroen Saxo Vts and F.Papadopoulos - G.Gonakis in a Peugeot 206 XS who finished second and third respectively

At the C1 category G.Pergamalis - S.Traikos in a Ford Sierra Cosworth were the only participants.

At the C2 category M.Thergiakis (a.k.a.NIKON ) - G.Andrianopoulos in an Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX finished first in front of A.Dofis - M.Tsaousoglou in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII who finished second.

At the C3 category J.Plagos - A.Rentis in a Honda Civic Type-R Ep3 finished first in front of V.Karathanassis - A.Karathanassis in an Opel Astra F GSi 16V and E.Manouskos - S.Kousoulas in an Opel Ascona 2000 who finished second and third respectively.

At the C4 category M.Dodis - S.Dodis in a Peugeot 106 Maxi finished first in front of G.Mylonas - J.Kalopitas in a Toyota Corolla KE 30 and J.Palmos - F.Psarrakou in a Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6 who finished second and third respectively.

At the C5 category A.Margaronis - M.Afaloniatis in a Citroen Saxo Vts finished first in front of F.Papadopoulos - G.Gonakis in a Peugeot 206 XS and G.Athanassopoulos - S.Bardakis in a Citroen C2 R2 who finished second and third respectively.

At the C6 category M.Platonis - J.Lillis in a Toyota Yaris finished first in front of S.Michail - G.Korinthios in a Peugeot 106 S16 and J.Syllas - P.Koykliabis in a Citroen Saxo Vts who finished second and third respectively.

2017 (17-18 June)[edit]

At 2017 O.M.A.E. redesigned the Greek asphalt cup dividing it into three regional cups which all connected with a final race.Rally Almyros was transferred from the central Greece asphalt cup to the North cup as the 2nd round of the cup.

The organizational committee after evaluating the 2016 experience made amendments attempting to improve the rally.The special stages of Agioi Theodoroi - Pteleos - Sourpi and Nies remained but was held three time each at Sunday 18 June giving the participants a total of 56,19 km to race.The ceremonial start was held at the city of almyros.The official finish of the rally and the cup awards were held at the seaside village of Amaliapoli The service park was based at Sourpi while the rally headquarters was rebased at Sourpi also.

33 crews started the rally competing in six categories in an edition which saw J.Plagos - A.Rentis to be comfortable winners but gave A.Margaronis-M.Afaloniatis their first overall stage win in a rally which the podiums of almost every category shaped the final rankings not only for the north asphalt cup but for Greek asphalt cup as well.The pattern first noticed at the 2016 edition keeps going having 4 drivers and 2 co-drivers making their comebacks and 3 co-drivers and one rally car to make their debut.

J.Plagos - A.Rentis in a Honda Civic Type-R Ep3 was the overall winners while the C5 winners A.Margaronis - M.Afaloniatis in a Citroen Saxo Vts came second and P.Goritsas - A..Spyrou in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X finished third.

J.Plagos - A.Rentis in a Honda Civic Type-R Ep3 won the F2 in front of A.Margaronis - M.Afaloniatis in a Citroen Saxo Vts and M.Benoukas - C.Mourkakis in a Peugeot 106 S16 who finished second and third respectively

At the C2 category P.Goritsas - A..Spyrou in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X finished first in front of G.Gerodimos - S. Grigoriou in an Opel Astra OPC and A.Panagiotopoulos - M. Michelakis in a Subaru Impreza Sti N8 who finished second and third respectively.

At the C3 category J.Plagos - A.Rentis in a Honda Civic Type-R Ep3 finished first in front of N.Vatsos - C.Theofanidis in a Renault Clio R3 and A.Lakis - V.Triantafyllidis in a Seat Ibiza 2.0 GTi who finished second and third respectively.

At the C4 category A.Perakis - K..Kourougkiaouris in a Peugeot 206 XS finished first in front of G.Mylonas - J.Kalopitas in a Toyota Corolla KE 30 and D.Diamantis - A.Masialas in a Toyota Corolla AE86 who finished second and third respectively.

At the C5 category A.Margaronis - M.Afaloniatis in a Citroen Saxo Vts finished first in front of A.Tsitsigiannis - A.Tsitsigianni in a Citroen Saxo Vts and S.Theofanidis - L.Mavros in a Citroen Saxo Vts who finished second and third respectively.

At the C6 category M.Benoukas - C.Mourkakis in a Peugeot 106 S16 finished first in front of E.Kornelakis - S.Orfanos in a Peugeot 106 S16 and K.Polychronopoulos - M. Christogiannoula in a Citroen Saxo Vts who finished second and third respectively.

2018 (30 June-01 July)[edit]

At 2018 O.M.A.E. abolished the Greek Ashalt Cup and launched three different regional Ashalt Cups.Rally Almyros was included at the North Asphalt Cup as the third round of the cup which after the cancellations of rounds 1 and 2 became the first round of the cup.

The 2018 edition was very similar with the 2017 edition having the ceremonial start at the city of almyros .The two special stages stayed same in length as the former editions but rebranded and now called I.KTEO Neas Achiallou Agioi Theodoroi - Pteleos - Sourpi and Roussas Dairy S.A.Nies.Each stage was held three times at Sanday 01 July giving the participants a total of 56,19 km to race.The official finish of the rally and the cup awards were held in the Achilleio village which in 2018 celebrated a century of establishment.The rally headquarters and the service park remained in Sourpi.

23 crews started the rally competing in six categories in an edition which had a lot of drama with mishaps and mechanical failures occurring until the last special stage. Once again the rally kept its reputation as a frienly rally for newcomers introducing to Greek motorsport 3 drivers, 4 co-drivers and 3 rally cars while 1 driver and 1 co-driver made their comeback and one rally car participated in its first asphalt event.

G.Gerodimos - S. Grigoriou in an Opel Astra OPC was the overall winners while the 2016 winner M.Thergiakis (a.k.a.NIKON ) with a new codriver C.Koyzionis in their new car Citroen Ds3 R3T Max came second and M.Anglopoulos - A.Makarios in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI finished third.

M.Thergiakis (a.k.a.NIKON ) - C.Koyzionis in a Citroen Ds3 R3T Max won the F2 in front of M.Paraskevas - A.Rentis in a Suzuki Swift GTI Mk1 and S.Michail - D. Balotis in a Peugeot 106 S16 who finished second and third respectively

At the C2 category G.Gerodimos - S. Grigoriou in an Opel Astra OPC finished first in front of M.Anglopoulos - A.Makarios in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI and A.Panagiotopoulos - M. Michelakis in a Subaru Impreza Sti N8 who finished second and third respectively.

At the C4 category J.Maggidas - G.Maggidas in a Peugeot 106 S16 finished first in front of D.Diamantis - A.Masialas in a Toyota Corolla AE86 who finished second.

At the C5 category M.Paraskevas - A.Rentis in a Suzuki Swift GTI Mk1 finished first

At the C6 category S.Michail - D. Balotis in a Peugeot 106 S16 finished first in front of A.Vergozisis - N.Komnos in a Citroen Saxo Vts and G.Polychronopoulos - M. Christogiannoula in a Citroen Saxo Vts who finished second and third respectively.
