Raniganj Riot 2018
On 27th March 2018, a communal clash broke out between two community. That day hindu were celebrating the birth of Lord Rama who is belived to be avatar of lord Vishnu a hindu god in sleeping posture on 7 head snake. Hindu celebrate this as Ramnavmi Day. Typically Hindu take out a procession in large number. When the procession was crossing Masjid, the holy place for muslims, stones were thrown at the people carrying out the procession. It is believed that stone were thrown by some political outfit under the guise of said community to incite a riot between hindu muslim.
Both community had a heated argument and after that riot started. The local temple were demolished. Hindu in exchange burned many muslim shop in hindu area and muslim burned hindu shop in muslim area.
The city was engulfed with smoke. The local hatia (vegetable market) was burned down. One person was killed and 5 people werw wounded in communal clash.
Local dcp lost his hand in the riot.
