From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Rashida Muhammad, also known as Dessie Woods, was an activist in the San Francisco Bay Area.[1] Rashida Muhammad was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment after killing Ronnie Horne with his own gun after he attempted to rape her.[2] The death of Ronnie Horne and his attempted rape occurred on June 17, 1975.[2] She was with a friend by the name of Cheryl Todd during the rape attempt and subsequent death of Horne.[2] Her case gained national attention, leading to the gathering of activists in Atlanta, Georgia as well as another gathering in the San Francisco Bay Area.[2] After having spent five years in prison, Rashida Muhammad was released.[1] Alice Walker wrote about the life of Rashida Muhammad in a collection of essays entitled "Living by the Word".[1] She became engaged in the local community of Oakland, working as chair of the Prescott Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council for eight years, and running a day care center from her home.[1] Muhammad was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away at the age of 61.[1]
