Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC)[1][2] is an independent non-profit organization formed in 1993. The Council is composed of active certified research administrators whose role is to certify that an individual, through experience and testing[3], has the fundamental knowledge necessary to be a professional research or sponsored programs administrator.[4][5][6]

History[edit]

RACC was formed as an independent, non-profit organization in 1993, in conjunction with the Society of Research Administrators, International (SRA).[1][7][8][9]

Certification Exams[edit]

RACC currently certifies applicants in the following areas:

  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA)[10][11][12][13]
    • This certification is generalized and covers all aspects of research administration.
  • Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator (CPRA)[13]
    • This certification is specialized in the pre-award area of research administration.
  • Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA)
    • This certification is specialized in the financial/post-award area of research administration.

Candidates must pass a computer-based examination designed by the RACC and administered by Professional Testing Corporation[3], which covers fundamental information necessary for meeting the demands and responsibilities of a career in sponsored program administration.

These three certifications offered are currently limited to the United States, although there are currently efforts to create an international certification[14]. RACC also offers pre-exam review study sessions at professional organization meetings, such as for The National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA)[15], Society of Research Administrators, International (SRA)[16], and National Association of College Cost Accountants (NACCA).

The certifications carry numerous benefits to those who hold them, such as recognition among professionals, a sense of personal satisfaction, indication of expertise in the administration of sponsored research endeavors, greater opportunities for employment, greater opportunities for advancement, robust credibility, and the ability to serve as a role model to research peers.[7]

Exam Curricula[edit]

The curriculum covered by each examination is referred to by the RACC as the "Body of Knowledge."[17][18]
