Richard Hendricks : Volleyball Player
Richard Hendricks is a Jamaican born volleyball player. Born July 29, 1997. At age 21 he currently plays for the University of Technology, JA which is pursuing a degree in sport sciences. He is the current captain of the team which was placed 2nd in the country's intercollegiate volleyball competition. In 2016 when he was just a freshman he led the team to victory in a roller coaster of a season. He has been the team best outside attacker and in 2016 had to start the season at the setter position after several players not meeting the school's academic requirement to play. Nevertheless he was ready to take on the challenge of pulling the team on his back. The team secured a spot in the semi-finals finishing 3rd after the round-robin stage. They went on to beat the University of The West Indies, Mona 3-1 in the semi-finals and went on to beat GC Foster College 3-2 in an amazingly final match of the season.
Richard did not play in the 2017 competition after deciding to take a break from volleyball. The team finished fourth(4th) that year. After a disappointing performance by the team in 2017, he looked to make a great impact on the for the 2018. Just as he did in 2016 he was looking to do so once more in 2018, but was unable to take home the victory for the Papine based University. The team went on the finals undefeated after beating UWI, Mona 3-2 in the semi final. A disappointing performance in the finals against GC Foster College saw the team taking home the silver medal.
Richard Hendricks also plays for the Vikings volleyball club which is struggling to find winning ways in the country's premier league and local tournaments. Vikings has been a major force to reckon with but over the past 2 years they have not won any major titles. Richard being one of the younger players at age 21 is looking to take this team back to winning ways. The vikings volleyball team have dominated for over 10 years but after losing alot of senior players due to retirement or migration the team continues to struggle. The team has struglle to find players to play the club league matches forfeiting 3 of their 7 club matches for the 2018 season. Vikings is currently in the rebuilding process and how long that will take is question only the team can answer. the team at present lack proper structure and that has been the main reason this team is moving further downhill.
However as influential of a player Richard is he has a great task a head of him to bring back the Westmoreland based volleyball team to the place of winning champonship.
Richard also plays volleyball for the Jamaica but is yet to make that big break in the senior team. He was apart of the under-17 team in 2013 that took home bronze from Trinidad in the Caribbean Champonships.
