Richard Schmermund (born October 30, 1992, in Ferguson, Missouri) is an American professional soccer player who currently plays for the Orlando SeaWolves.[1] of the Major Arena Soccer League [2] (MASL).

Early life and education[edit]

Schmermund was born on October 30, 1992, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Rick and Barb Schmermund. He was raised with his siblings in Ferguson, Missouri, and attended McCluer High School [3]

Schmermund first played soccer with his older brothers and sisters when he was very young. His father was very passionate about soccer and saw Richard's talent for the sport. From an early age, he played for Saints John and James and then for the St. Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer Club [4] and Lou Fusz [5]. During his teenage years, he played for McCluer High School. Upon graduation, his collegiate career was played at Saint Louis Community College-Florissant Valley [6] where he was awarded First Team All-Conference.

Club career[edit]

After college, he continued to play and coach soccer in St Louis before playing professionally with the Illinois Piasa [7] in the Premier Arena Soccer League [8] (PASL). After that, he signed on with the St. Louis Ambush [9] (MASL) for the (2013-14) season and appeared in 14 games where he contributed five goals and 13 blocks. The next year (2014-15) he played 15 games and added another seven goals and two blocks. In his third year (2015-16) he played in all 20 games and added another four goals, six assists, and 11 blocks. Despite being a defender in his last season (2016-17) with the Ambush, Schmermund was able to score 10 goals, provide three assists and block 17 shots, which ranked him second of the entire team. After playing for the Ambush, he signed with the Orlando SeaWolves [10] (MASL) for the following season (2018-19), scoring 11 goals, five assists, and 28 blocks. Schmermund is currently signed to play for the Seawolves until 2021.
