Rirongshu Mukherjee better known as Rigo, is a writer ,composer and lyricist apart from that, he is also a social and political activist. He is best known for his song "Nastikotar Gaan". The powerful lyric "Ami nastik hote pari ami tomar dhormo mani na" gave immense power to the activists during NO_NRC movement. This song created equal impact in both the Bengals.

Early life[edit]

Rirongshu was born in Ranaghat, a small town in Nadia district. He did his schooling from Ranaghat as well. He was a avarage student in his school days but language subjects was always his favourite. He took science after his 10th boards. Rirongshu indulged himself into music from this time. He learnt guitar and formed a band with his local friends. Back then he was a guitarist and bass player. Name of his first band was Missing Diaries.

Kolkata and Rabindra Bharati University'[edit]

' After completing his 12th boards he came to kolkata. That time he already decided he wants to continue his career in music and arts. Rirongshu took admission in Rabindra Bharati University. He was a student of western classical music. During this time Rirongshu mate some of the most important people of his life one of them is Ankita Das who is vocalist of Nastikotar Gaan and other songs of Nagarik. Ankita was also a student of Rabindra Bharati University. She introduced Rirongshu with the world of folk music of Bengal.

Nagarik and beyond[edit]

Ritwik Ghatak was always an inspiration for Rirongshu. That's why when he formed his own band, he named it Nagarik, named after a movie of Ritwik Ghatak. Rirongshu and his long time companion Ankita das are the core mamber of this collective musical group. Nagarik is a kolkata based band. They mostly play their own compositions. They also cover alternative bengali music and folk music. Some of their popular songs are Nastikotar gaan, Amar boner kanna, Nijhum rater tara Take chuye dio etc.
