Rob Goldberg is an Athlete, Philanthropist, and American Business Executive; currently Executive Vice President of Restaurants and Bars for the Tommy Bahama Group. He is cited as an expert on lifestyle brands and source material for various industry publication's. He has worked within the Hospitality and Food Industry for over 30 years, with historical contributions in system reinvention, novelty ideas, and brand expansion.[1]

Early Life[edit]

Born the third child and only son of Lawrence Goldberg and Doris Goldberg nee Holt. His father is a graduate of Harvard Law School and was a prominent attorney and legal scholar in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 50 years. His mother Doris was a graduate of Oberlin College and was a classical musician, community volunteer, and also lived with post-polio syndrome.

Rob attended public school in the Bay Area, and at 14 began attending The Midland School in Los Olivos, California. Those years are credited to the formation of in his attitude, appreciation of nature, and quest for innovative ideas. He went on to attend UCLA and holds a B.A. in History.

Career[edit]

Goldberg worked at the first Hard Rock Café in the United States in Los Angeles, where he worked in multiple roles and eventually General Manager. He spent the majority of his twenties traveling around North America to launch various Hard Rock Cafes.

The experience at Hard Rock Café allowed for his creation of groundbreaking nightclub, Vertigo. The club included 12 bars, a VIP lounge, and a fine dining restaurant. The club was later sold to Prince in 1991.

During the late 1990s he and his family moved to Utah, where he became Managing Director of Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort.

In 2001, Goldberg became the CEO of the PlumpJack Group[2], a company founded by California-Elect Governor, Gavin Newsom. The company is known for its Napa wineries resorts and chef-driven restaurants.

He also served as Chief Operating Officer of Village Roadshow's Gold Class Cinemas[3], in which gave genesis to the current landscape of the American Cinema experience. Through an upscaling of the classic theater experience, it introduced reclining leather chairs, chef prepared food, and extensive beverage programs.

He is currently the Executive Vice President of Restaurants, Bars, and Food Concepts at the Tommy Bahama Group. The tenants of the position are held in the innovation, creation, and execution of all food related concepts. Goldberg is charged with every facet of the division, giving position to the company as a principle in experience-driven retail.

Philanthropy & Athletics[edit]

Goldberg is a passionate volunteer and benfactor, contributing time, money, and organization. Rob serves on the board of trustees for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society [5]and has organized races and rides to benefit the group. He has also served on the boards of the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau and Tim Draper's Byword Foundation

Goldberg is an avid cyclist, runner, and triathlete. He is a nationally ranked Ironman, Olympic and Sprint distance triathlete, and is a member of the USA Triathlon board subcommittee for marketing. He is currently a member of the Métier Seattle Cycling Team where he races is the WSBA race series.

Personal Life[edit]

Rob is married to Frances Henderson Goldberg, photographer and former model, they are parents to two Daughters and the family resides in  Seattle. The family is credited for their positions on animal welfare and have housed multiple rescues.

Mr. Goldberg is also a car enthusiast, having owned a 1960s Thunderbird that was sold in the late 2000s to RuPaul. He currently owns a restored 70s Ford Bronco and designer 2000 VW Eurovan.
