From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Rob Tyrrell is a British drummer known for playing in his school band Anon, which was forerunner to Genesis as well as Sour Milk Sea which would breifly feature Freddie Mercury as lead singer before he became a member of Queen.[1][2]

Band History[edit]

In his early years he attended the prestigious English public school Charterhouse. Here he formed a band with schoolmates Rivers Jobe (Bass guitar), Richard Macphail (vocals) and Anthony Phillips (guitar) with Tyrrell on drums, they would later be joined by Mike Rutherford (Rhythm Guitar). This band would merge with rival school band Garden Wall which included Peter Gabriel and Tony Banks and would come to take the name Genesis, Tyrrell however would not be included in this band.[1] After this Tyrrell left Charterhouse and in 1969 joined a blues band in London called Sour Milk Sea. He replaced Boris Williams on drums who would later find fame as part of The Cure. The band would recruit future Queen frontman Freddie Mercury to front them and gained a significant local following.[3] Ultimately, Sour Milk soon dissolve however after a disagreement over the musical direction of the band and personal disputes between the other members.[4]

Later Career[edit]

Following the collapse of his bands, Tyrell became a professional freelance drummer for twenty years. he worked for performing artists, theartres and television shows. After this he moved from London to the North-East of England and now works as a private drumming teacher.[5]
