Robert Coker: Ride Enthusiast

Robert Coker (born April 20th, 1962) is an American theme park enthusiast, best selling author and ride designer living in Los Angeles. Coker's life long passion for amusement parks and roller coasters lead to the creation of his book Roller Coasters: A Thrill-Seeker's Guide to the Ultimate Scream Machines [1], published in 2002 by Metro Books. The initial print run sold out and the first reprint was published in 2003 by Barnes and Noble Publishing. There have since been four printings in total, the last done by Barnes and Noble Publishing with updated content in 2006.[1] Coker's book is a detailed guide book about theme parks and roller coasters, as well as a nod to a favorite American past time.

Robert Coker has gained notoriety as the author of Roller Coasters: A Thrill-Seeker's Guide to the Ultimate Scream Machines published in 2002. [2] [2] A guide book about roller coasters and theme parks across America.[3] Coker established himself as an expert on thrill rides with his website ThrillRide! [3][4] creating a large following amongst the thrill ride enthusiast community, which eventually lead Coker to write his book. Coker also contributes to a pod cast for ride enthusiasts, titled 'Season Pass'[5] [4]

Roller Coaster: A Thrill-Seeker's Guide to the Ultimate Scream Machines [5][6] gives the history of roller coasters, going all the way back to the first known roller coaster built on a Russian mountain. Wikipedia Russian Mountains Coker's book includes text and photographs and serves as a guide for today's best roller coasters by category.[7] The book contains a section for wooden roller coasters, steel roller coasters, and what Coker refers to as "Extreme Machines". Coker also included in the book a series of photographs depicting the different types of roller coasters,[8] as well as, the best roller coasters to visit in each city.[9] As a contributer to the pod cast 'Season Pass'[10] Coker provides his list of best roller coasters to visit as well as videos of himself riding roller coasters. Coker, having been a life long theme park enthusiast, began writing about roller coasters in 1996. Coker's passion for roller coasters and theme parks has lead him to his current role as a Creative Developer for Super78 Design Studios [11] a thrill ride design company. Coker has designed the guest experience and attraction scripts for Super 78’s latest Flying Theater attractions, Alpha Flight and Wings Over Washington.Wings Over Washington [12] Coker also designed the Forbidden Caves, the 3D media-based Immersion Tunnel attraction at Belgium’s Bobbejaanland theme park Bobbejaanland Theme ParkWikipedia Bobbejaanland, for which he wrote the attraction script and led the creative development of the guest experience. Coker also serves as a member of the development team for The Walt Disney Birthplace restoration project, creating marketing and communications materials.[13]
