Robotics Football

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Robotic Football.[1] Robotic football refers to a competition based on American football between teams of distinct robot units.[2] The game is played on a field the size of a basketball court and the robots are roughly the size of printers. They maneuver on wheels and perform all the primary football functions: throwing, kicking, catching, running, and tackling. Although the robot units have some autonomous functions on board, they require human operators for full functionality and maneuverability. [3] The game’s rules are based on 8-versus-8 football rules used for small high schools. [4]

The games from 2008 through 2011 were scrimmages between two teams designed, built, and operated by over 60 Notre Dame mechanical engineering seniors, and have been reported nationally: by Wired Magazine[5], USA Today [6], and NFL.com [7], in addition to some local news and South Bend coverage, Notre Dame News [8], The Observer [9], and Ohio Northern [10]
