Roger Madgwick Davidson (born 18 August 1923) is a retired Australian medical practitioner who initiated the most comprehensive sports injury surveillance study at schoolboy level over a 30-year period.[citation needed] A member of The Salvation Army’s Distinguished Auxiliary Order, Davidson served for many years as Honorary Medical Advisor to The Salvation Army Australia Eastern Territory.[1]

Early life[edit]

Davidson was born in Stanmore, New South Wales, the son of medical practitioner Dr James Madgwick Davidson. His uncle was Sir Alfred Charles Davidson, General Manager of the Bank of New South Wales, and his great grandfather was the noted humanitarian Alfred Davidson. Davidson attended Newington College (1932–1940)[2] and then the University of Sydney from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1945.[3]

Medical career[edit]

Davidson was in general practice in Enmore, New South Wales and was the medical officer for the neighbouring Newington College. In the thirty-year period in which he held this role he initiated Australia's most comprehensive sports injury surveillance study at schoolboy level.[citation needed]

  • Salvation Army Cross of the Order of Distinguished Auxiliary Service – 1970 (for exceptional service rendered to the Army by non-Salvationists)[8][9]
