Role Models Yorkshire[edit]

Role Models Yorkshire is a not-for-profit organisation based in York, Yorkshire. The organisation works with schools in low socio-economic parts of Yorkshire, providing a wide range of free programs. to inspire young people attending these schools to pursue more ambitious professional careers. The organisation runs a series of programs for both primary and secondary schools to engage their pupils in education and career planning. The main activities run by Role Models Yorkshire are skill building workshops and presentations.

Role Model Presentations[edit]

Role Models Yorkshire works with business people within the Yorkshire region to develop their Role Model Presentations. Business people from diverse backgrounds, hand picked by Role Models Yorkshire, enter schools and give presentations on their experience in a professional environment and how they overcame barriers in their carriers that have come about because of them being low socio-economic background.

Following the presentation by the successful business people, a Role Models Yorkshire representative gives a short talk on the routes into the business persons industry and the support available to young people from low socio-economic backgrounds.

Role Models Yorkshire also put on these presentations with students attending the countries top universities. The students who present these presentations are themselves from low socio-economic backgrounds. The students talk about their experiences at university and the support that is available to them.

Breaking Barriers Workshops[edit]

Role Models Yorkshire run a program of four breaking barriers workshops in secondary schools. These workshops work with young people from low socio-economic backgrounds. The aim of the workshops is to breakdown misconceptions and barriers that are preventing these young people from being successful. The workshops also work on developing key skills that the young people will require to have successful careers.

University Visits[edit]

Role Models Yorkshire work with the regions top universities to arrange visits that are designed especially for young people from low socio-economic backgrounds. These visits include talks on university life, financial and emotional support, as well as development workshops.

Confidence Workshops[edit]

Role Models Yorkshire provide a program of confidence building workshops for primary school pupils, going to school in low socio-economic parts of Yorkshire. The workshops are very interactive, focusing on breaking down social barriers at an early age and developing key skills for life, education and successful careers.

Interactive Presentations[edit]

Role Models Yorkshire offers a range of interactive presentations to primary school children. Educating them on different careers that are available to them and the importance of school for getting into these careers. There are three main categories available for schools to select from - Engineering, STEM and Arts and Humanities. Each focusing on the education, careers and fun available in the categories subjects.
