The Northern California Rugged Maniac 5K Obstacle Course event (or Rugged Maniac NorCal) has been held annually in Pleasanton, California since 2013. The event currently takes place at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.[1]

History[edit]

2017[edit]

The May event was the first Northern California event, where only the Top 3 finishers (male and female) were manually timed by race officials. Beginning January 2017, Rugged Maniac has stopped the use of timing chips due to a lack of demand.[2]

2016[edit]

Rugged Maniac Northern California was held at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, California.[3]

In 2016, the event featured 25 obstacles over a length of 5 kilometers. The festival area hosted activities such as dance parties, mechanical bulls, bounce houses and exhibition booths.[4][5][6]

2015[edit]

2015 saw a battle between two women elite obstacle course racing athletes, Lea Stretch and Nichole Root. Both women have regularly placed in the top 10 for races such as Rugged Maniac, Spartan Race, and Battlefrog.[7][8] Stretch edged out Root by three seconds for the top finisher medal.[9][10]
