Rupa Sharma 'Neha'. journalist and human right activist in Nepal with the experience of more than 17 years in the same fields. She has got dozens of incidents of graveness in my personal life that prove unjust societal norms and values enrooted in the society. She believes strong intervention is required to change the unjust values and practices. This is the only way to bring about change in this sector. As tired-less advocacy and campaign have been continued from the streets as well as strategy and she has contributed 17 years contribution of her life for advocating these issues from the streets. While working as a delegation member in front of the authority, parliamentarians, law-makers and administrators, She has got the bitter experience of lack of the knowledge and skills to influence them on the issues of women's rights and gender equality.
Experience of activism: She is an active journalist working for Television, print, and radio since 2001. Currently associated with National Television (Nepal Television ),and Metro FM 94.6 megahertz as a News Editor and Program Producer . She has possessed several indicators that Aajako Charcha (Today's Issue ) which is related about current social issue and Sankalpa (Commitment) is one of the famous radio programs produced by herself among others picking up the theme of women's rights and gender equality. Sankalpa is research based weekly interview program. Generally it goes after the international and national days and the event or issues that hit the country and community. Among many others, 8th March, 10th December. 14th February, 28th September, 3rd October, 16 days of activism started from 25 November and similar other days that have been dedicated for the celebration of several aspects of women's rights and gender equality are picked up with the contextualizing and localizing the themes. Besides this, contemporary issues of the women's rights like citizenship, abortion, inherent property for daughter, rape and sexual abuses, gender bases discrimination for the opportunities, and hundred others have been picked up as subjects for the Sankalpa. In order to produce the program she make her literature review and basic research to know the comprehensive aspects of the particular subject, and invite experts, researchers, government officers and policy makers to discuss on the topic. It is believed that TRP (Total Rating Points) of Metro FM is 8 million, advocacy on the cause of gender equality goes to the large number of the audience in the country focusing to the capital of the country that covers audiences located in three districts named as Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur. Beside this, She produce news bulletin as a news editor making the headlines of the issues of women's rights and gender equality if newsworthiness. In this way, She contributing to the society in order to underline the issues of women's rights, engaging men and boys for gender equality and just society that leads the social order for sustainable peace. Besides advocating to the issues, She raise the flag as one of the active members on the street. She served as an Executive Secretary for Institute of Human Rights Communication Nepal (IHRICON) for 9 years, and currently contribute as an Advisory Board Member for the same organization (http://www.ihricon.org.np). IHRICON is one of the renown NGOs in Nepal that works with media as a resource organization providing knowledge and skills to the journalists, civil society organizations and its activists, and general people on human rights since its inception, 2000. Likewise, She has saved her time for Cap Nepal serving as a media coordinator in order to look after communication and public relation on behalf of the organization. She had also editor of Sankalpa, monthly magazine which is published by Cap Nepal. Now she is board Member of Cap Nepal.(http://Capnepal.org) . She has got chance to associate the Ewha Global Empowerment Program 2014 summer , The 6th EGEP open Forum with the topic as "Transitional Feminism and Women's Activism" organized by Ewha Womens university, South Korea. I presented the paper on the theme of sexual violence against women and the justice system in Nepal which has been published in the Book named as visioning Feminist Alternatives for a Better World : Stories of Women Activist in Asia and Africa . http://acws.ewha.ac.kr/eng/0608.html. While describing on the experiences, we must not forget two points, i.e. producing dozens of in-depth articles and publishing in the print media and online news portals. Most of them have got the themes none other than women's rights and gender equality; and working for the process of NAP (National Action Plan) for UNSCRs 1325 and 1820. She was one of the data collectors for the first monitoring report of NAP implementation in the country.
She has experiences of working as a national researcher on access to justice for rape survivors in Nepal in 2007 to 2010 organized by Iss Wicce and WOREC Nepal (http://www.worecnepal.org/). She worked as a data collector of Situation of women journalist of Nepal published by Sancharika Samuha in 2072 .
She got chance to work as a trainer for orientation program on National Action plan for the implementation of UNHCR 1325 and 1820 held on Palpa district organized by Merest Nepal, one of the reputed NGOs in the country. Similarly, worked as a trainer on women and human rights issues in different districts .
She has bagged an experience of volunteering in a women’s rights, human rights and peace advocacy with the formal and informal association with different organizations. Regarding the policy advocacy on women’s rights, human rights, peace and other social justice issues, I've written several articles for the print and online media and produced dozens of program with the objectives of influencing the people in the policy level, law-makers or parliamentarians and governmental authority.
