Ruth Lawrence DoeringRuth Lawrence Doering (nee Salomon), professionally known as Ruth Gilbert and later Ruth Lawrence, was a scholarship recipient and student at the School of American Ballet studying under dance legend George Balanchine before joining the New York City Ballet under his direction. She later taught at the Harkness School (now Harkness Dance Center) in New York City. Doering later transitioned from ballet to theater and television, performing at the famed Gateway Playhouse in Bellport, NY. She was a featured dancer on the Hit Parade and lead dancer on The Garry Moore Show, working along side such talents as Julie Andrews, Ella Fitzgerald and Carol Burnett. In 1964, Doering performed at the Press Photographers Ball in Washington, D.C., and for audiences including former United States President Lyndon B. Johnson. In 1966, Doering was a featured performer on Broadway with Ethel Merman and Jerry Orbach in "Annie Get Your Gun".
