SOHO devices

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Small office/home office (SOHO) devices are equipment that is required to run a small business out of the SOHO setting. Since small office/home offices usually have less than ten employees, more of the commercial grade equipment is not as necessary and is easily substituted with consumer grade equipment.[1]

SOHO Devices[edit]

Devices within a small office/home office range from anything that is used for operation of the business. This can range from wireless routers to form the backbone of the computer network, to mid-sized laser printers, and servers. Depending on the requirements of the small office/home office, many of these devices don't require a professional installer. In designing the network for a small office/home office, feature rich devices give the office more flexibility, such as security settings, or advanced network features.[2]

Device Examples[edit]

Some examples of devices are listed below. These devices tend to be feature rich and give more options to the user than basic consumer grade devices:

  • Router with modular security functions including wireless access, cost-effective, and high-speed/high-bandwidth throughput.[3]
Linksys-Wireless-G-Router offers many features required for a SOHO.
  • A printer that can support 1 to 10 people queuing printing jobs, multiple functions preferred such as an all-in-one.[4]
  • Depending on the needs of the office, there may need to be a server in place locally. Servers could consist of anything from a mail server, to a data backup repository. Its very important that a SOHO establishes what needs are required for the organization.[5]
