Sadaoki Furui (古井 貞熙 Furui Sadaoki, [sadaoki ɸɯɾɯi]; born September 9, 1945) was a Japanese speech processing researcher noted for his contributions to digital speech processing in areas such as automatic speaker verification, speech synthesis, and speech recognition.[1]. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematical Engineering and Instrumentation Physics from the University of Tokyo in 1978 [2]. He joined the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) in 1970, and was a Visiting Researcher at AT&T Bell Laboratories from 1978-1979, after which he was a Research Fellow and the director of the Furui Research Laboratory at NTT. He became a Professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1997, later served as the Dean of the Graduate School of Information Science and Engineering, and was named Professor Emeritus after retiring in 2011 [3]. He served as the President of the Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago (TTIC) from 2013 to 2019, and was Chair of its Board of Trustees in Chicago from 2019 to 2021. He was author and co-author of over 1,000 publications in the field of speech processing and related fields such as artificial intelligence and natural language processing. He was a member of several IEEE committees, and served as president of the International Speech Communication Association from 2001 to 2005 [4]
