Sanjay Sen is an Indian lawyer, designated as a Senior Advocate[1], who specialises in energy and regulatory laws[2] and appears in several cases relating to power purchase and transmission services agreements, tariff issues concerning conventional energy as well as renewable energy, constitutional and regulatory issues relating to State concessions and exercise of delegated powers by sector regulators before various courts and tribunals within India like the Supreme Court of India, various State High Courts, the Appellate Tribunal For Electricity, Electricity Regulatory Commissions, Competition Commission of India, NCLAT, etc[3].
He is an alumnus of Campus Law Centre, the University of Delhi from where he graduated in law (LLB). After completing his graduation, Sanjay joined the chamber of Mr. S.N Mukherjee, Barrister at law and Senior Advocate. In 1993 Sanjay joined the University of Edinburgh for an LLM degree programme. After completing his LLM degree, he returned to India and settled in Delhi.[4]
Sen has recently succeeded in defending Jindal Steel and Power's distribution license before the Supreme Court for power supply to OP Jindal Industrial Park.[5] He has also successfully led MAHAGENCO’s (Government of Maharashtra power generating company) challenge before the Competition Commission against Coal India Ltd., for abuse of dominant position in matters of long-term fuel supply contracts.[6]
