Santilata Basu Roy was the first lady who had completed her graduation on mathematics (honours). She was one of the female graduates in the British periods from the very remarkable Bethune College in the early 19th century.

Basu Roy was born as Santilata Basu Roy daughter of Surendranath Basu Roy at Purba Bangla, Bangladesh. The family is from Mymensingh , which is now in Bangladesh. Despite coming from a upper caste Bengali society which did not support women's education at all at that period of time, still she had the spirit to educate herself. Santilata stayed in the hostel of the college itself. this was really a hard job during that time.

Santilata Basu Roy Memorial Gold Medal : This is the medal given to the student who stands first in Mathematics honours in the B.Sc (Bachelor of Science) Examination from Bethune College.[1]
