Sarah Gad is an American attorney and politician who is best known for her 2020 Congressional run in Illinois' first District against Democratic incumbent Bobby Rush.[1]
In 2020, Gad ran for U.S. Congress in the 1st Congressional District of Illinois against long-time incumbent Bobby Rush. Gad's platform criminal justice reform, racial equality, and decriminalization of mental health and poverty.[2] [3] Gad, who lost to Rush, came in second place, defeating her other Democratic opponents Robert Emmons Jr. and Ameena Matthews.[4] Gad's campaign was notable due her status as a formerly-incarcerated drug offender,[5] which would have made her the first formerly-incarcerated female legislator.[6]
