Sasha Jairam
Sasha Jairam Kimmane is one of the youngest fashion and fine art photographers. She has created iconic portraits and photographed covers and campaigns for influential and fashion houses in India and Greece. In 2012, she said: “I have no formal qualifications, just the school life. I learned most by just taking pictures; a lot of pictures. I’ve made plenty of mistakes, but it’s often from your mistakes that you learn most. Being a photographer has been an amazing strive for me. I look at the aesthetics and manipulate images every single day as I am currently studying Fashion Photography in London.” Born in 1996, Sasha was raised in the small town called Shimoga, near Bangalore, India, by her wonderful parents. Her love of photography began aged 16 when she was given her first camera by her father. She has now moved to London at the age of 18 to study fashion photography in the University of the Arts London: London College of Fashion. She has become the assistant to a photographer who she does not want to publicise as she says that it is confidential. Her models have been published in film magazine covers and have gotten into acting through the portfolios she has created. She worked with lots of famous photographers in London who has given her amazing contacts in the whole of United Kingdom including a job offer from Vogue. “It was the best internship I have ever done, the one I really wanted to work for, so to be with him was a big quantam leap,” she told the Your story online magazine in 2014. In 2014, having won a reputation as a fine fashion and fine-art photographer in India, Sasha decided to email her work to an exhibition in Mykonos, Greece as she was asked to send in all her work to an artist who looked at her blog and was quite impressed. At last, Sasha is extremely grateful to her parents for letting her follow her dreams the way she wants to. She thanks her father for investing in all her dreams and equipments and she says that it was hard convincing him in the beginning about taking photography as a career as it is risky to rely on this field completely. But he gradually was convinced owing to the fact that my mother and brother had my back in this discussion. “At the end of the day, it’s your happiness that matters the most to me. So, do what makes you smile,” says her father.
