Scott Grimes (born 1977) is an entrepreneur and veteran in the technology and media spaces. He was the co-founder and CEO of entertainment-focused digital media company Uproxx Media Group, previously know as Woven Digital, from 2010 to 2015. He subsequently became its Executive Chairman until the company's sale to Warner Music Group in August 2018. In 2017, Grimes launched his second company, Stackin’ Inc., which uses messaging and content to help millennials better understand and engage in personal finance. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Scott worked in sales and strategy at News Corp and Nielsen.

Early life and education[edit]

Grimes was born in Austin, Texas and grew up in Round Rock, Texas. He completed his B.S. in Corporate Communications at the University of Texas at Austin.[1]

Uproxx Media Group (Woven Digital)[edit]

Grimes co-founded Woven Digital in 2010 with Michael Laur and served as CEO for five years.[2] Under his tenure, Woven Digital became a leading digital media company reaching 85 million viewers a month.[3] In 2012, he led the company's strategy to acquire several popular but niche online properties starting with BroBible and most notably Uproxx in 2014. Additional acquisitions included HitFix, BroBible, Dime Magazine, Guyism, and Brotips.[4]

In 2014 the company raised $18 million in a Series A funding round led by Institutional Venture Partners for the expansion of owned and operated web properties and the launch of Woven Studios to create original video and television content.[5] At that time, the company was valued at $100 million and its properties reached an average 90 million users per month and nearly 5 million visitors daily.[6]

Under Grimes, the Woven Digital was selected as one of "The World’s Top 10 Most Innovative Companies Of 2015 In Hollywood" by Fast Company.[7] In late 2015 Grimes stepped down as CEO and became the company's Executive Chairman overseeing revenue.[8] In 2017 Woven Digital was re-branded as Uproxx Media Group[9] and the following year it was purchased Warner Music Group.[10]

Stackin' Inc.[edit]

In 2017 Grimes co-founded Stackin’ Inc., a financial technology media company developing finance focused content relevant to younger audiences.[11] Post Facebook's algorithm change, the company shifted its business model to beсome а direсt-to-сonsumer messaging platform.[12] In April 2018, the company had 50,000 consumers who signed up to reсeive personal finance related text messаges with guidance and tips.[13] Stackin' has raised approximately $2 million in early investment from fintech firms and its affiliаte mаrketing initiatives will bring in $2 million in revenue in 2018.[14]
