Senate of Canada 150 Medal

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

To mark the 150th anniversary of the first sitting of the Canadian Senate in Parliament on November 6, 1867 the Canadian Senate has created a medal that will be awarded to 1500 Canadian 'unsung heros' and members of the Senate.[1]

According to an official release by the Canadian Senate, "The medals are being awarded to Canadians or permanent residents actively involved in their communities who, through generosity, dedication, volunteerism and hard work, make their hometowns, communities, regions, provinces or territories a better place to live.[2]

Conservative Senator David Wells is one of the senators in charge of the program said that the program is designed to recognize those who don't often get public recognition for their contributions. "It's exclusively for people who have worked hard in their communities, made contributions, unsung heroes, people that generally go unnoticed," Mr. Wells said.[1]

The medals are made from Muntz metal (a bronze, copper and zinc alloy) and are three inches (7.6 centimeters) in diameter and a quarter inch (7 millimeters) thick, which is the same size as the Canadian Confederation Medal 1867. They are finished in a bronze matte.
