Shane McInerney is an Irish professional footballer, born in Galway, Ireland on May 22nd 1992. He is a central defender and currently playing for the Magpies Crusaders in Australia..[1].

McInerney grew up playing football in Ireland and was capped internationally for Ireland at Under-15 and Under-18 level[2].

He moved to the USA on a soccer scholarship in 2012. Before moving stateside, McInerney had played in the League of Ireland Premier Division with Galway United FC[3].

College Career[edit | edit source]

He spent one year at Monroe Community College[4] in New York then spent three years at Keiser University in West Palm Beach, FL.

On his senior year in 2016, McInerney was named NAIA All American[5], Defensive Player of the year[6] for the Sun Conference and First Team All Conference.

Professional Career[edit | edit source]

In July 2016, he spent some time on trial at Cork City in the League of Ireland Premier Division playing in friendly games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham FC but was not offered a contract with the Irish side.

In August, 2016 McInerney signed for FC Linkoping City in Division One Sweden[7]

He then joined Jacksonville Armada FC in Florida[8]. They played in the North American Soccer League (NASL). After his season with the Armada[9] he spent time on trial with English club Sunderland.

On December 1st, 2018 Australian side Magpies Crusaders announced they had signed the Irish centre back for the 2019 season[10]
