Shri Ram Mandir is a Hindu Temple located in Plano, Texas. It is the only temple in the world dedicated to Lord Rama outside of Ayodhya and Ram Janmabhoomi. The mandir complex includes a large prayer hall, bhog area, classrooms, and fully operational community kitchen. The mandir is open daily for worship and to visitors of any faith.
History[edit]
Hindu Cultural Foundation dba. Shri Ram Mandir was established on January 1st, 2009.[1] Its mission is to involve the community to celebrate all Hindu festivals and events and educate the next generation on the tenets of Hindu culture and appreciate its rich heritage through religious and cultural discourse & Gurukul teachings.[2] Shri Ram Mandir's values are derived from the core principles of Sewa, Dāna, Dharam, Prem & Bhakti.[3]
Daily Rituals[edit]
Within the mandir, murtis have been ritually installed by pandits as per Vedic tradition which are open to the public for Darśana (daily prayers) and archana (worship ritual). Shri Ram Mandir hosts and live streams many daily rituals to serve the community in the greater DFW metro area.
- Aarti performed twice everyday at 12 PM and 7:45 PM.
- Hanuman Chalisa chanting every Tuesday and Saturday at 6:30-7:30 PM
- Mata Ki Chowki on the 2nd Friday of every month at 8:30-10:30 PM
- Satyanarayan Pooja on every Puranmashi (full moon) of each month at 6:30-7:30 PM
- Sunderkand Path held every Saturday at 6-7:30 PM
- Gayatri Havan held every Sunday at 10:30 AM [4]
Priests[edit]
Pandit Puspa L. Koirala[edit]
Puspa Ji joined Shri Ram Mandir in November 2009. He received his religious education from Vrindavan and has over 20+ years of experience in Hindu Vedic rituals. He is popular for his robust voice and his invigorating bhajan singing.
Pandit Kashi Khanal[edit]
Kashi Ji joined Shri Ram Mandir in December 2010. He also received his religious education from Vrindavan and has over 20+ years of experience in Hindu Vedic rituals. He is known for his profound and intense mantra recitations.
Construction[edit]
In late January of 2021, The Hindu Cultural Foundation purchased a brand new property for mandir construction for $2.5 million.[5] The first phase of construction of the Ram Temple in April 2021 has begun after the commencement of the bhoomi poojan and the outer shell of the temple has been built.
Bhoomi Poojan ceremony[edit]
The temple construction officially started again after a Bhoomi Poojan ceremony on April 17th, 2021. Extensive Vedic rituals were held ahead of the ground-breaking ceremony including a 108 Deep Prajwalan and havan.
Mandir Inauguration[edit]
Once mandir construction has completed Shri Ram Mandir will have the Murti Sthapana of all of the new deities as they are welcomed to their new permanent abode.
Gurukul[edit]
Gurukul is a weekly cultural class for young children between the ages of 5-13 years at Shri Ram Mandir to teach them to read, write and speak Hindi, learn Naitik Shiksha, & sing Bhajans. The youth volunteer team coordinates cultural programs with local schools at every major Hindu festival and produces many performances. [6]
