Skybourne (2107 Comic Book Mini-series)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

"Skybourne"[1] is a 2017 comic book mini-series published by Boom! Studios Comics. It tells the tale of two of the three children the biblical character Lazarus, who in this world are super strong immortals who fight against evil forces of magic. This series is drawn and written by Frank Cho.

Plot[edit]

The series focuses on two of Lazarus's three children, Thomas and Grace Skybourne. The third child, Abraham, does not appear in the series. For centuries, Thomas and Grace have fought to protect humanity from evil monsters and magical beings. They work for an ancient and secret order called the Mountain Top Foundation, who has been capturing dangerous magical creatures and objects and locking them up within a mountain fortress called Command Base Alpha in Zematt, Switzerland.

At the beginning of the series Thomas is in retirement, having outlived the love of his life due to this immortality, while his sister, Grace, continues to work for the Foundation. Meanwhile, Grace is hunting for the magical sword Excalibur for the foundation. After stealing the sword from Turkish gangsters, Grace is attacked by a mysterious wizard. The wizard turns out to be the legendary wizard Merlin and, after taking Excalibur from Grace and her team, uses the sword to seemingly kill her.

After the death of Grace, the Foundation tracks Thomas down and attempts to bring him back in. Merlin plans to free all the magical creatures locked up in Command Base Alpha and return magic to the world, creating chaos across the globe. Thomas agrees to return to the Foundation to help stop Merlin, but with the condition that he be able to use Excalibur afterward to end his immortal existence.

Thomas enters a training program within the Foundation to get back into fighting form as he has been away from monster fighting for several decades. While Thomas is training, Merlin frees several dragons and attacks Command Base Alpha. During Merlin's assault on the mountain base, Thomas fights against Merlin and several of the monsters Merlin managers to free during his initial assault. While fighting rages across the underground complex, Grace awakens in Command Base Alpha's morgue. Excalibur did not kill Grace, just put her into a deep coma. After regaining consciousness, Grace also joins the fight against Merlin. Thomas is told of Grace's return and realizes that the sword can not kill him, but he continues to fight because Merlin's plan will kill millions of innocent people.

Thomas finally confronts Merlin at the bottom of the base, where a magical door locks away to most powerful and dangerous of magic. Since the base is almost lost, Thomas tells the Foundation leadership to set of a nuclear device they have as a last ditch contingency to destroy the base and bury the door, Merlin and himself under millions of tons of rock (and secretly hoping the nuclear blast will finally kill him). They leave just enough time for Grace and the rest of the Foundation personnel to escape the mountain before setting off the nuke, burying Merlin and Thomas. The series's final page shows Thomas eventually digging his way out of the rubble, alive and well, where he curses for still not being able to die.
